What is Spray Foam Insulation?

Spray polyurethane foam (SPF) is a two-component liquid that reacts on contact to expand and cure into a rigid, airtight insulating layer. Unlike blanket or bead insulation, spray foam conforms perfectly to irregular surfaces, filling every gap no matter the shape. It's particularly effective in attic rafters (keeping the attic space warm as a habitable room), flat roof structures, around pipes and joists, and any area where traditional insulation cannot easily reach or stay in place.

How it Works

1

Area Assessment

We assess the space to be insulated, check moisture levels, and identify the appropriate foam type — open-cell for breathability, or closed-cell for maximum performance and moisture resistance, typically we use open-cell for residential applications and closed-cell for commercial/industrial applications.

2

Surface Preparation

The area is cleaned, any loose debris removed, and adjacent surfaces are masked off to protect them during application. Cardboard cards are stapled to rafters 1-2 inches out from the felt to create an airway to allow for ventilation and prevent moisture issues in the roof space.

3

Foam Application

Our trained operatives spray the two-component foam in even layers. It expands rapidly to fill every gap, then cures to a firm, stable foam in minutes.

4

Trimming & Inspection

Excess foam is trimmed back where needed, and the finished result is inspected to ensure complete coverage and correct depth has been achieved.

FAQs

Yes. Once cured, spray foam is inert and poses no health risks. There is a curing period of 24 hours during which the treated area should be ventilated, we'll advise you fully on this before and during the job.
Open-cell spray foam in attic rafters has been flagged by some lenders in the UK and Ireland. We always advise customers to check with their mortgage provider before choosing spray foam if they plan to sell or re-mortgage. We can discuss alternatives if needed.
Currently, SEAI grants are not available for spray foam insulation. However, savings on energy bills can still be significant, and we offer competitive pricing.
Properly installed spray foam insulation has a lifespan of 20+ years and does not sag or settle over time like some other insulation types.
